About
In 1971, at just 19 years old, I negotiated my first motor-racing car sponsorship deal with a subsidiary of Unilever. It was then that I realised my passion for negotiations and entrepreneurship.
By 1973, I entered the property industry, and two years later, I was appointed the Group Investment Manager of a national property investment and development company in South Africa. On June 1, 1976, I co-founded a property development business. However, just sixteen days later, the Soweto Riots rocked the country. The economic instability that followed drove South Africa into a three-year downturn, negatively impacting numerous businesses, including ours. Property development depends on confidence in the future of a country—a confidence that had severely eroded due to political and social unrest.
In 1977, I transitioned to consulting for struggling businesses. Without the funds to pay me upfront, I devised a unique arrangement: I received a percentage of their increased gross revenue. My strategies, negotiations, and ongoing consulting services resulted in significant revenue increases and new revenue streams despite the country’s economic challenges. As the Bible says, “For gold is tried in the fire, and acceptable men in the furnace of adversity.”
Since 1977, I have been advising businesses and managing my ventures through Neville Berkowitz and Associates, pioneering property economic consulting in South Africa.
Many clients have referred to me as their Business Coach.
From 1980 to 1995, I wrote and published a monthly investment journal, The Property Economist —Research and Forecasting for the Property Industry.
Within three years, I was appointed to the Building Advisory Committee, which reported to the Office of the Prime Minister of South Africa. By 1983, at 31, I had already established myself as a respected thought leader and adviser in the property industry.

Speeches
I have given over one hundred speeches and hosted regular conferences for over 1,000 clients of The Property Economist.
My most crucial speech was in July 1986 at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. I predicted the forthcoming decline of the Johannesburg CBD, even as construction cranes dotted the skyline. I also forecasted a meaningful shift towards office development in the northern suburbs—a prediction that was soon sought after by the head of Johannesburg’s Town Planning Department—and the rest is history.
From 1982 to 1986, I also researched, wrote, and co-published 40 editions of the quarterly publications The Economic Review of South Africa and The Manufacturing Review of South Africa, co-published by Finance Week, then South Africa’s second-largest weekly financial magazine.
For over 50 years, I’ve applied my negotiation skills locally and globally to benefit myself, my partners, and my clients. Over the past 30 years, I’ve leveraged these skills in property investment and development.
2013- I wrote and published the widely praised book How to Be a Great Negotiator. Please get in touch with me if you would like a complimentary copy of this book.
I have been a prolific author and publisher since 1980. In 2004, I began writing free books to empower and enrich people. To date, I have written 30 free books available on my website, PersonalEmpowerment.co, which boasts a Facebook following of 1.2 million. My work has earned a 4.3/5 rating from Amazon.com reviewers, underscoring my dedication to freely sharing knowledge and helping others.
